The pulsioximetric study

The night pulsioximetry study is a continuous recording during the night time of the blood oxygen saturation levels. It gives us important information about how good it is the patient's oxygenation overnight. Although it does not provide data about  sleep stages or about the sleep time it is a useful tool to assess the nocturnal oxygen levels of any person diagnosed with diseases that affect the lungs or the heart (eg chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, heart failure, etc.) and also to assess how effective is the oxygen treatment.

In this example, the graph shows a significant decrease in the blood oxygen saturation levels during the nocturnal time of study being the values below the minimum acceptable for more than 39% of the registration time.
